Professional courses
Chartered Accountancy (CA)
CA professionals handle auditing, taxation, financial reporting and advisory. The course is run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and has three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Final, with practical articleship training.
- Entry: register for CA Foundation after Class 12 (graduates can use direct entry). ICAI now holds CA Foundation exams three times a year, which gives students more attempts.
- Who it suits: disciplined students who like accounts, law and detail.
Company Secretary (CS)
Company secretaries manage corporate law, compliance and governance. The course is run by ICSI, starting with the CSEET entrance test.
Cost and Management Accountancy (CMA)
CMAs focus on cost control, budgeting and strategic finance, via the Institute of Cost Accountants of India.
International finance qualifications
ACCA, CFA and CPA are globally recognised. Most are pursued alongside or after a degree.
Degree courses
B.Com and B.Com (Hons)
The most popular Commerce degree. Honours programmes at leading central universities are highly competitive and admit through CUET. Many students combine B.Com with CA, CS or CMA.
BBA / BMS
Business administration and management studies — a strong base for an MBA, marketing, HR, operations and entrepreneurship.
Integrated management (IPM): IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak and a few other IIMs offer five-year integrated programmes through IPMAT and similar tests — an attractive route for ambitious students.
Economics (Hons)
One of the most respected undergraduate degrees in India. Most top colleges require Mathematics in Class 12. It leads to careers in policy, research, banking, consulting and data analysis.
Banking, finance and insurance
B.Com in Banking and Insurance, BBA Finance, B.Sc Finance, and programmes in financial markets and investment analysis.
Business analytics and data
BBA/B.Sc in Business Analytics — a fast-growing area where commerce knowledge meets data skills. Mathematics helps here.

- Law: BBA LLB and BA LLB through CLAT (usually held in December), AILET and other law entrances — corporate law is a natural fit for Commerce students.
- Design and fashion business: NIFT’s Fashion Management and design programmes accept all streams.
- Hotel and hospitality management: through NCHM JEE.
- Mass communication, advertising and digital marketing
- Entrepreneurship: many universities now offer dedicated programmes and incubators.
- Government jobs: banking (IBPS, SBI), SSC and, after graduation, UPSC civil services.
